What Experts Say:

All children 40 lbs and under should be in child safety seats on airplanes.

Cares Spring '07 Newsletter

The big news is that CARES has been approved by CASA, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia, which means that parents can now use CARES on all Australian airlines. So, in addition to flying on US airlines all over the world, you can now do the same thing on Qantas and any other Australian airline.

Certification is also pending in Canada – we’ll let you know when it happens – and we have started the process in the European Union.

Happy Users and Rave Reviews

February and March continued to bring in lots of reports of happy parents and children flying with CARES. There are now over 6,000 CARES out there. Check out ‘What Users Say’ on our website (www.kidsflysafe.com) for recent comments.

CARES is featured prominently in a new book, ‘Jet With Kids’, by Anya Clowers, an RN and traveling mom who runs the child travel website www.jetwithkidsclub.com. Her first person experience with CARES has been reprinted on the News and Links page of our website.

Also, travel articles in newspapers and articles in parenting magazines continue to show up all over the country. The News and Links page of our website, www.kidsflysafe.com, carries some of the latest ones.

More Flight Attendants Are Accepting CARES

The number of emails we’re receiving about air line personnel challenging parents who want to use CARES for their kids is definitely declining. More and more airline flight attendants and gate agents are going through update training programs, and they’re becoming used to seeing CARES on their planes.

But the problem hasn’t entirely disappeared and the FAA is working with several airlines to resolve the remaining issues. Parents tell us it has helped to carry the FAA Advisory Circular 120-87A ‘Use of Child Restraint Systems on Aircraft’, and the FAA Website ‘Flying Safely with Kids’ when they fly. Both of which can be downloaded from the News and Links page of our website. Ticket agents seem to be the last to know that something besides car seats are permitted on planes – so if you get a "no they aren’t" answer about CARES ask to speak to a customer service representative.

CARES for Older Kids

We are getting inquiries from parents wanting a CARES that fits their 4-6 year old kids. We will be testing a prototype later this year to determine if we can come up with a solution.

Do continue to email us your CARES stories – the good ones as well as the problems!

Regards,
Louise Stoll, Managing Director, Kids Fly Safe, LLC (and the inventor)

What Users Say

Hello, I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your product. The CARES restraint makes air travel with our 3 year old son so much easier. It reminds him of his car seat, so he feels more secure. And it brings peace of mind to his daddy and me.

~Carol, New Mexico
