What Experts Say:

All children 40 lbs and under should be in child safety seats on airplanes.

WELCOME TO CARES IN THE UK

CARES is the child air safety harness that weighs just 1 lb, fits into a handbag and has revolutionized the way families fly. And this multi-award winning product is now being launched in the UK.
Over 2000 UK and European parents have already discovered the amazing benefits of CARES, joining the 55,000 parents worldwide who can relax safe in the knowledge that their little ones are safely strapped into their aeroplane seat.

What is it?

A ½ kilo belt and buckle device that uses the regular aeroplane lap belt, installs in one minute on any size plane seat, is permitted on any seat in the row, and keeps your child as safe as a car seat would.

What's wrong with just a lap belt for my child?

Lap belts were designed for adults not small children and babies, says aviation expert ROGER HARDY, who has led a series of investigations into onboard restraints for infants and young children.
“Children are the most vulnerable passengers on aeroplanes but the least protected,” says Roger, project manager of the Cranfield Impact Centre at the University of Cranfield. “So in the event of a crash landing or even turbulence the child will be more vulnerable to injury as a result.”
Safety experts and pediatricians agree that the only safe way for a small child to travel on a plane is to be strapped in with a five point harness. As in a car, the shoulder straps are essential to prevent the upper body and head from flipping forward in turbulence or an emergency landing and slamming into the seat in front.
You wouldn’t dream of using a lap belt to strap your child into a car doing 30mph, so why are you prepared to do that in a plane which is travelling at ten times that speed?

Who approves it?

The UK Civil Aviation Authority which means you can use it on any UK airline. It is also certified for all phases of flight by the US Federal Aviation restraint (FAA), and the aviation authorities of Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Singapore and Israel. It is welcomed by nearly all the major airlines of Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa, as they generally recognize and honour the certification of the FAA.

Who thought of it?

Louise Stoll, a former Department of Transport executive in the Clinton administration. When Louise met her daughter Miriam off an aeroplane struggling with a 20 lb car seat for her toddler she had a brainwave and the idea was born. As Louise says “We stow our luggage away carefully, we strap adults and crew in firmly but children are left in danger throughout the flight.”

Where can I get it?

Via several UK website retailers - check the UK list on the “Where to Buy” page of the website- and CARES will soon be available on the high street with a major UK chain.

How much does it cost?

The RRP is £55 to £60.
